The interesting history of this iconic brand began in 1932. That year, designer George Carwardine created a mechanism which he recognised had applications in other fields. He particularly saw its benefits for a task lamp, so the Anglepoise was born.

The joints and springs allowed the lamp to move into different positions, which it maintained without being clamped. Carwardine patented the design and entered a licensing agreement with Terry Spring Company.

Today, Anglepoise is creating exciting new lighting products. Our new range, called Anglepoise Duo™, covers table, wall, floor and pendant lamps.

Each lamp is inspired by the original Terry's Anglepoise lamp. Some use the original mechanism; others are fixed with adjustable shades. All continue the 80 Year Anglepoise tradition of placing light right where it is required.
