Showrooms at CDW2015

Celebrating their first ever London showroom, Carl Hansen & Søn – the manufacturer of some of the greatest Danish furniture designs- will be opening its three-storey building on Bowling Green Lane for this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week. Alongside a presentation of the latest collection there will also be a showcase of its most iconic 20th Century design classics, including Hand J Wegner’s Wishobone Chair, Shell Chair and Heritage Chair.

On Rosebery Avenue, in one of Clerkenwell’s most exciting showrooms Moroso returns to Clerkenwell Design Week in fine form; hosting a preview of the 2015 furniture collection that includes an exclusive project with David Adjaye. As one of the UK’s leading architect Adjaye has worked directly with Patrizia Moroso, and both will be in conversation during CDW; revealing details on the project, how it came about and an insight in the collaboration between two great innovators of our time.

Cassina, part of the Poltrona Frau Group, marks fifty years of the iconic LC collection. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Le Corbusier’s death, their presentation at Clerkenwell Design Week will feature the LC50; a reissue of the original 1960s collection. With some of the greatest 20th Century names in European design working with Cassina the collection has pieces by a star-studded list of designers, including Le Corbusier himself, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand.

Arper, one of the leading contemporary names on the Clerkenwell Design Week showroom trail will always stages a series of events as part of CDW. This year is no exception; alongside talks and receptions they are introducing Kinesit;, the company’s first office chair complianet with all workplace regulations. As an innovative piece of modern furniture is not only lightweight but also provides a fully adjustable back, which allows each chair to adjust to individual requirements for optimal comfort. Coalesse brings its new 2015 chair, Lessthan5_MY by Michael Young to the festival. Made entirely of carbon fibre, this special chair combines materiality with technology to deliver a distinctive structural form that references modern craft. Its design is adaptable to both indoor and outdoor settings. Michael Young is appearing as part of the Conversations at Clerkenwell series, staged at the top floor of the Design Factory, on Thursday 21 May at 12 midday.

A CDW favourite, Humanscale will preview its new Ballo stool and Trea chair in the UK for the first time. Ballo, designed by Don Chadwick, is a fun seating solution delivers significant health benefits. As a reinvention of the exercise ball concept, the Ballo stool promotes active seating, to stimulate the mind and body! The Trea chair is designed by one of the rising stars of US design, Todd Bracher. As a multipurpose chair is suits the ever changing needs of users in a variety of environments. Bracher will be in Clerkenwell for CDW and is talking as part of the Conversations at Clerkenwell series, Thursday 21 May.

A mainstay of CDW and a pioneer in many ways, Austrian furniture manufacturer Bene celebrates its 225th anniversary this year. Their showroom will feature a new modular wall system Nooxs, designed by seminal British studio PearsonLloyd. Addressing the need for intelligent partitioning and good acoustics each element of the system has a range of width and height options and Bene have produced them in different finishes including veneer, fabric and melamine.
