New Mater Earth Gallery to open during CDW

For Clerkenwell Design Week, Danish brand Mater will unveil the new Mater Earth Gallery. Founded in Copenhagen in 2006 by Henrik Marstrand, Mater is a conscious and ethical design brand with a strong design philosophy and great craftsmanship.

Mater Earth Gallery is a concept store and showroom for the Mater brand. It is the home of the entire Mater Collection as well as exclusive Earth Gallery Editions.

In the Earth Gallery, Mater will showcase how they make things, the materials that are used, and how their ethical profile is converted into design products. It is a showroom open to architects and consumers alike. More than that, with an on-going events programme it will also showcase different consumer aspects of ethics and sustainability in lifestyle products.

The Clerkenwell- Earth Gallery has been designed by Earth Studio, headed up by Eva Harlou, and will feature recently launched designs and an edit of pieces from the existing Mater collection alongside a selection of other ethically produced materials and great design objects.

New lighting designs include Coco – a poetic LED lighting series by Danish designer Eva Harlou. Firefly – a LED pendant influenced by Mexican heritage by Jose de La O, and two additions to the Ray Lamp family by Danish design studio PEDERJESSEN.

Mater also introduces the Handle vase by Eva Harlou, a companion to the popular Double Bottle vase by the same designer. On furniture, Mater adds the Nestor shaker chair by Danish architect Tom Stepp and Rocker – an elegant rocking chair by Canadian designer Shawn Place.

Two new designs by UK designer Simon Astridge will also be unveiled, Mild Steel 22 – a flexible metal storage system and Wine 24 – a sculptural and movable metal wine storage.

Henrik Marstrand, Founder and CEO said; “We are honoured to announce the arrival of the Mater Earth Gallery in Clerkenwell. We can’t wait to unveil our new London home and new products and tell our story in the UK. When bringing new products to the market our priority is not focused on WHAT we launch but we really try to define WHY we launch it, in an ethical context. Are we supporting a recycled material or supporting a new eco-friendly material? Is there a good supporting story with the craftsmen? Those answers define WHY we are on the market.”
