“The door handle is the handshake of the building”, said Finnish architect, educator and writer, Juhani Pallasmaa.
Unfortunately, many commercially available door handles simply don’t do their buildings justice, becoming the architectural equivalent of a limp handshake.
As an interior designer, Carlino was searching for a full-timber door pull and lever for a prestigious project he was designing. “Everything I found was a combination of timber and metal, which didn’t reflect the quality of the project nor did they feel comfortable enough in the hand,” he says. His response was to design his own handles with an emphasis on tactility and solidity.
In developing a range of solid timber door pulls and levers that were beautiful to look at and beautiful to hold, TIRAR was born.
” It was very important to me that the door furniture not only looks simple and elegant, but through the use of high quality timbers, craftsmanship and attention to detail in the finishing, they are exceptional to touch”, says Carlino.
