Following last year’s outstanding installation ‘Bleed’ in Bleeding Heart Yard for Clerkenwell Design Week 2017, Bleeding Heart Group and Hatton Garden BID have teamed up again to commission street artist ATMA (who also directed ‘Bleed’) to produce a one off mural and floor painting entitled ‘Bleeding Art’.

Urban legend has it that the courtyard’s name commemorates the murder of Lady Elizabeth Hatton, the second wife of Sir William Hatton, whose family formerly owned the area around Hatton Garden. It is said that her body was found here on 27 January 1646, “torn limb from limb, but with her heart still pumping blood.”

The painting depicts the body & soul of Lady Elizabeth rising to the sky following her blooded final night, creating a thought provoking and poetic in situ installation, to be noticed and viewed from Greville Street. ‘Bleeding Art’ invites Clerkenwell design week visitors to explore the Yard and connect with its fascinating history, as well as its current life of a design hub.
