Taiga Highlights Sustainability Achievements at Clerkenwell Design Week

Taiga Concept Stand: Taiga Concept

Taiga, a Finnish designer and producer of soundproof workspaces, is set to unveil the latest findings from sustainability initiatives at Clerkenwell Design Week. The company will present key findings from their comprehensive sustainability efforts, including the results of their Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), and BIFMA accreditation.

At the core of Taiga's ethos lies the concept of the natural workspace, a philosophy that has guided the company since its inception. Pekka Eskelinen, Co-Founder and Head of Design at Taiga, emphasizes timeless simplicity and the connection to nature that prevails in every Taiga design:

‘Taiga was born out of a desire to bring the calming, and restorative effects of Nordic nature into the workplace. Our design choices follow this approach. We try to maximise the use of renewable materials and focus on creating timeless high-quality products that are not only beautiful but make working a more enjoyable experience.’

Taiga’s commitment to nature extends beyond products to encompass every aspect of the company's operations. Sustainability and eco-consciousness inform decision-making processes from product development to end-user experience. According to Eskelinen, this recent step in the sustainable development project gives Taiga valuable insights into our environmental impact.

"We are proud to present this product sustainability report, showcasing our efforts to create sustainable workspace solutions that promote well-being," says Eskelinen.

"These statistics mark a milestone in our ongoing journey towards a more sustainable future, creating long-lasting and functional design."

The Life Cycle Assessment represents a significant step in Taiga’s sustainability journey. The process involved a meticulous analysis of materials, supply chain logistics, manufacturing processes, and product usage. This gave Taiga a unique insight into to environmental impact of their entire operations. To present these results to the market in the best way possible, Taiga has undertaken the comprehensive EPD process in line with the most up-to-date Product Category Rules available. The project leader, Angus Grant, emphasises the reflective nature of the process:

"The results of our Life Cycle Assessment has returned some results that we can be proud of and shown us some areas that need improvement. While we believe that our Carbon Footprint results are a real testament to the care we put into our design, we have also seen that we need to improve the way we define our end-of-life process to further reduce the impact of our product's lifecycle."

Taiga is excited to welcome guests to experience the products themselves and hear our sustainability story. Taiga booths can be found at the Welltek showroom on 26 Seward St during Clerkenwell Design Week 21-23rd May.
