In the European Union, approximately 10.78 million tonnes of furniture are discarded annually, with about 1.9 million tonnes originating from the business sector, including office furniture. Alarmingly, 80-90% of this discarded furniture is either incinerated or sent to landfill, with only around 10% being recycled.
