Surculus large, midi and mini

Surculus large, midi and mini

Studio Palatin Stand: The Crypt

Latin for “The shoot, branch, sprout”

The Surculus collection is inspired by the ever-present, regenerative force of nature. A prolonged stay in the countryside led the artist to observe the quiet persistence of growing branches and emerging sprouts—forms that were later translated into abstract bronze sculpture.

The lamp’s organic silhouette evokes a branch rising and unfurling, winding its way upward toward the softly glowing paper shade, and extending beyond it with a polished bronze finial. A darker patina and deeper ridges near the base give way to lighter tones and gentler contours near the top, symbolizing new growth emerging from the old. The hand-folded shade, crafted from Japanese Hosho paper, echoes the ridged bronze below, catching and diffusing the light like a delicate flower.

The Surculus lamp is sculpted in bronze using the traditional lost-wax method. Each piece is made by hand—carefully cast, polished, and patinated—ensuring that every lamp is unique. The artist has created five different finial designs, giving each lamp its own distinct character.

Combining the heritage of handcrafted bronze with modern innovation, the Surculus lamp reimagines the traditional candlestick as a contemporary, wireless, rechargeable LED light—bridging past and present in both form and function.
