Designer Susie Atkinson will launch a new collection of refined, British-made furniture at Clerkenwell Design Week, with materiality, quality and craftsmanship at its core.

With her expertise at designing some of the best-known interiors in the country including Soho House, Lime Wood and Beaverbrook as well as many private homes around the world, Susie has developed this collection in response to her difficulty at finding beautifully made, quality furniture pieces which have a timeless aesthetic and will work equally well in traditional or contemporary interiors.

As the Laid Bare collection name suggests, this edit of furniture has been created with a deceptively simple design language to allow the beauty and tactility of the materials and the makers’ expertise to take centre stage. Each piece has been handmade in Britain using quality natural materials with a particular focus on British oak, chosen for its strength, durability and individually beautiful grain.

Susie has hand-picked the makers of these pieces, believing that we should be championing our local craftsmen and enabling their skills to endure.

Susie commented: ‘I wanted this collection to celebrate the enduring beauty of quality pieces, and what it means to have something handmade using the best materials. It is important to me that these designs stand the test of time and are made in the most sustainable way possible. This was an exercise in restraint and consideration as I wanted each piece to work very hard but not to take over a room.’
