Curiousa design and manufacture hand-blown glass and ceramic lighting from their old mill studio, nestled in Derbyshire’s Peak District. Designer and founder Esther Patterson has a real passion for all things British-made and for true craftsmanship and is proud to be part of a re-emerging tradition of British skills.
This year at Clerkenwell, Curiousa are launching the Carnival Collection - an experimental curation of form and material. Inspired by the geometric Harlequin patchwork motif, these lit art-pieces, embrace joyful contrasts by combining colourful porcelain, wood, and glass. The ceramic elements are all made in-house, allowing freedom to create individual palettes. The result is a series of one-off illuminated sculptures that exude warmth, character, and playfulness.
Displayed alongside this are the Elemental and Wave II Collections. Created using hand-blown glass vessels threaded onto beams of light, creating a feeling of effortless interplay and suspension. Each piece within the collection speaks to the idea of ‘perfection with imperfection,’ celebrating the intrinsic beauty of free-blown glass mixed with hand-turned wooden disks. These pieces are blown to order in diffused clear or coloured glass with a choice of twenty colours. Each element has been hand-crafted in the UK, then hand-assembled by the Curiousa Team.
