Alison Smith is one of the Founding Directors of Rock and Soar, a sculptural lighting studio based in SW London. She is the creator of each artistic design, whose narratives are deeply influenced by moments in nature and abstract forms.

Each illuminated feature is combined with highly technical design, innovative use of materials, and harmonious compositions that enrich and enliven spaces. Her work allows viewers to witness elements of nature they may have been unaware of before, creating discovery and wonder in every piece.

Smith’s background is predominantly focused on craft and the exploration of materials such as glass, acrylics, ceramics, and metals. Having combined this with over 9 years of experience in the decorative lighting industry where she met her business partner, Monica Polonio, she ventures into her own work using sketching and watercolour painting to tease out concepts that combine material and light.
