James Mair founded Viaduct over 30 years ago, making its mark in the sector with early exhibitions by the relatively unknown Philippe Starck, Ron Arad and Tom Dixon. Viaduct was also the first furniture showroom in Clerkenwell, a backwater at the time for specifying but with a burgeoning food and architectural presence, Mair felt it was just the right place to do business. It also happened to be the first completed Manhattan Loft building and James took the bold step of buying this dramatic art deco warehouse to house the Viaduct showroom.
His impeccable eye for spotting not just talent but trends makes him an authority in the industry and respected by designers and manufacturers alike. His Clerkenwell showroom has an international reputation for exhibiting and introducing new designs to the UK. Always supporting emerging talent and exploring interesting ideas, James and his team seek out design that shows integrity and vision- furniture with a long and durable life. Not gimmicky, just good design. Some of the brands he has introduced to the UK include e15, Maarten Van Severen, Mattiazzi, Muller Van Severen; Montis, MDF Italia, Nikari, Pastoe, and many more besides.
