Joachim Stumpp
Joachim Stumpp is an architect, materials expert, and currently serves as Managing Director of Material Bank DACH and the Material Bank Studio—the only studio of its kind worldwide. With a career shaped by material innovation and strategic design thinking, he plays a leading role in how materials are curated, experienced, and communicated across the built environment.
He is the founder of raumprobe, Germany’s pioneering material platform, which has now become part of Material Bank in 2023. Since its founding in 2005, raumprobe has set new standards in the presentation and understanding of materials—combining a physical showroom in Stuttgart with a comprehensive digital material database.
Joachim brings a dual perspective of design and technical expertise. His deep passion for materials is reflected in decades of consulting for architects, designers, and companies on the use and potential of surfaces and textures.
As a juror for design and architecture awards, he is actively involved in shaping discourse around innovation and quality in the industry. Whether through exhibitions, workshops, digital tools, or personal consultation, Joachim continues to inspire forward-thinking approaches to materiality—both locally and internationally.
