Loom Light
Inspired by Op Art and the quiet presence of lanterns, a precise linear pattern is integrated into a sculpted column. The piece is being developed using nonplanar slicing as part of the fabrication research, allowing the toolpaths to mediate between form and graphic — turning the “lines” into a fine textured relief, where surface and pattern continuously inform one another.
As visitors move around it, alignments and misalignments between the graphic pattern and the column’s geometry shift, alternately reinforcing and challenging the underlying form. Concealed illumination amplifies this effect through depth, shadow, and translucency, inviting close viewing and slow circulation.
